Diosi Roméo Smith (born September 30, 1993) is an American artist know for his use of the cumshot and appropriation of pornographic imagery. He uses this imagery as metaphor and the works are produced via the mediums of photography and printmaking. He lives and works in Baltimore, Maryland. His home town is Andrews Air force Base, Maryland.
Diosi’s controversial work amasses uncomfortable conversations about the male gaze and over sexualization of the female form in media. His work explores delusions of identity stemming from learned masculinity in consumerist American pop culture. Raised in consumerist America by three women during the age of information he was fostered in a unique setting. His youth was filled with contrasting theories on masculine identity coming from multiple perspectives of men, women, and media.
The goal of Diosi’s work is to subvert learned masculinity in order to question perceptions of identity. The subversion is executed through mimicry. The Artist has stated that the satire in his work is diluted to gain a genuine reaction from the viewer.
